Introduction
The training is designed to provide an overview of the emergency Needs Assessment process. The process can look very different depending on the scale of a disaster, the role of humanitarian organizations involved, and the resources available to any particular organization or to organizations collectively at the country level. We’ll look at assessment from various angles—from the field level to the capitol level—and we’ll see the process through the eyes of an assessment coordinator as well as enumerators on the ground.The training will introduces basic concepts and approaches related to disaster situation and emergency needs assessments and presents post-disaster assistance needs typically associated with various types of natural hazards. In addition, the training presents a disaster assessment reporting format that National Societies can use for reporting purposes. The training is appropriate for staff and personnel with little experience in conducting disaster needs assessments or completing international appeals forms following a disaster, but who have responsibility for these functions.
Who Should Attend?
This course is ideal for experienced emergency personnel and/or who are likely to carry out needs assessments in their work. Participants already with need assessment experience are particularly encouraged to apply. A typical profile of a group would include professionals from Government Officials, UN agencies, Red Cross, INGOs, Local NGOs’ staff involved with emergency preparedness and response
