Maarifa Consult Ltd contracted in June 2018 by DanChurchAid in South Sudan  to Conduct an End of Project Evaluation for a Humanitarian Response Project titled “Cash Assistance, Diversification of Livelihoods and Market interventions to Enhance Resilience of vulnerable households in Fashoda, Manyo, Maiwut, Nassir, Ulang and Longechuk in Upper Nile, South Sudan”. The Project is implemented by DanChurchAid (DCA) in South Sudan and Funded by Diakonia.

Evaluation was organized to demonstrate how the Project had achieved its intended objectives and determine what change it has brought to the target communities. As stipulated in the Evaluation’s terms of reference, the Evaluation was also intended to assess if the Project has caused some changes in food security, livelihoods and copying strategies among the beneficiaries. In addition, the Evaluation findings will enable DCA, partners and Donors to learn some lessons on innovative approaches and effective humanitarian response being implemented.

The Evaluation was completed using a combination of both quantitative and qualitative robust techniques. The qualitative techniques included; documentary review, focus group discussions (FGDs), Key Informant Interviews (KII) and Most significant stories (MSS). The quantitative technique mainly used a household survey conducted with individual farmers to collect quantitative data on selected Project indicators. The Evaluation involved and reached sample of 409 including refugee and IDP farmers, fishing groups, Cash grant beneficiaries and market vendors and secondary respondents who included; local chiefs, RRC/ROSS, Project staff, Cash Distribution Committee, Market Trade Unions etc.
